Robin Hackshall - The LSP Coach

Make people think
Make them participate
Make the ideas stick

I create interactive talks and sessions that take audiences on a journey of discovery, using stories, activities, reflection and, where appropriate, a few LEGO® bricks along the way.

I’m particularly passionate about speaking in person, where I can create energy in the room and give people the opportunity to experience an idea rather than simply hear about it.

My background is in Agile, coaching, facilitation and LEGO® Serious Play®, but the ideas I explore aren’t limited to Agile teams. A talk about navigating change, for example, can be just as relevant to a wider organisation facing uncertainty and transformation.

Talks that take you somewhere

I don’t want audiences simply to sit and listen.

I use stories to introduce an idea, activities to help people experience it, and reflection to give them space to make their own connections. There might be a twist, a change of direction, a challenge to conventional thinking or, occasionally, a room full of LEGO®.

The aim isn’t participation for participation’s sake. It’s about creating an experience that makes the idea more memorable and gives people something useful to take away.

What we could explore

I’m fascinated by the things that make us think differently: what happens when we change the rules, look at a familiar problem from a new perspective, or simply give people a different way to explore an idea.

Here are some of the questions that I have explored so far:

Six Bricks, Six Ways

What can six simple LEGO® bricks teach us about creativity, collaboration and the way we work together? A playful, hands-on exploration of six different ways of thinking and working, using LEGO® to turn abstract ideas into something people can experience.

The Unexpected Power of Constraints

We often see constraints as things that get in the way of creativity. But what if the opposite is true? Explore how limitations can focus thinking, encourage experimentation and unlock ideas that might otherwise remain hidden.

From User Stories to Human Stories

What happens when we stop seeing user stories as tickets and start seeing the people behind them? Explore how empathy, storytelling and a deeper understanding of users can help teams create more meaningful outcomes.

Coping with Change

Change is rarely a straight line. Explore how we respond when plans change, uncertainty increases and the path ahead isn’t clear. Through stories, activities and reflection, discover ways to approach change with greater curiosity and confidence.

More than a presentation

Every audience is different, so I adapt the format to suit the event, the people and the idea we’re exploring.

Sessions can range from 30-minute talks to 90-minute interactive sessions, with the opportunity to go deeper through a bespoke workshop.

I particularly enjoy working in person, where activities can create energy and get people out of their seats. LEGO® Serious Play® is one of the tools I use, but it isn’t a requirement. The activity should serve the idea, not the other way around.

The goal is simple.

Don’t just give people something to hear, give them something to experience.

I’ve had the opportunity to speak at…

From local Agile communities to international conferences, I’ve had the opportunity to share ideas, run interactive sessions and experiment with LEGO® Serious Play® with audiences in a variety of settings.

Global Scrum Gathering, Lisbon

Agile2024, Manchester

Agile Yorkshire

Agility Community of Practice at Flutter

Looking for something bigger?

Sometimes 45 minutes isn’t enough.

If you have a bigger challenge, a specific theme or an audience that needs something more tailored, we can co-design a bespoke workshop around your objectives.

This could be an extended conference session, a half-day experience or a full-day workshop. We can combine storytelling, discussion, practical activities, LEGO® Serious Play® and other approaches to create something that fits your audience.

I’ve also worked with organisations such as Justice Digital and Northumbrian Water to design bespoke workshops and training around their specific needs, bringing together facilitation, agile processes, LEGO® Serious Play® and practical activities.

Let’s talk

Have an event, conference or idea in mind?

Tell me about your audience, your theme and what you’d like people to take away. You don’t need to have it all figured out. Bring the idea and we’ll see what we can create.
