I’m Robin Hackshall
I help individuals, teams, and organisations unlock deeper insight, creativity, and alignment, all through the power of coaching and LEGO® Serious Play®.
You could call me ‘The LSP Coach’.
Whether you’re exploring a challenge, developing yourself or your team, or simply looking for a different way to think, you’re in the right place. Together, we’ll create the space to explore what’s possible, make the complex tangible, and build a way forward.
It didn’t start with LEGO®
Over more than 25 years, I’ve had the opportunity to work in a variety of roles, organisations and environments. I’ve been a Product Owner, Scrum Master, Agile Coach and consultant. Looking back, there’s a thread running through all of it.
I’ve always been interested in how people work together to solve problems.
As my career progressed, the focus shifted. I moved from being responsible for what gets delivered towards helping people understand how they work together to deliver it. This took you deeper into Agile, coaching, facilitation, team dynamics, and organisational change.
I discover that the hardest problems weren’t usually caused by a lack of process, they were caused by things such as:
Different perspective
Assumptions
Competing priorities
Things that were not being said
People seeing the same problem differently
Then came the LEGO® moment
I first discovered LEGO® Serious Play® as an experiment while looking for new tools and techniques that could help people think differently, uncover fresh ideas and make sure every voice had a chance to be heard. I was particularly interested in what happened when you changed the way people participated, rather than simply asking them to have a better conversation. LEGO® Serious Play® caught my attention because it offered a completely different way to explore ideas. People could build their thoughts, share their stories and respond to the ideas of others. What started as an experiment became an important part of how I help people think, collaborate and solve problems.
The LSP Coach today
Today, The LSP Coach brings together everything I’ve learned along the way: Agile, coaching, facilitation, creativity and, of course, LEGO® Serious Play®. I work with individuals, teams and organisations to create space for better thinking, meaningful conversations and new possibilities. The tools and techniques may vary depending on the challenge, but my approach remains consistent: create the conditions for people to contribute, explore different perspectives, experiment with ideas and discover what they can build together.
And that approach is grounded in a few simple values that shape how I work.
What matters to me
Over the years, I’ve learned that the way I work matters just as much as the work itself. These aren’t just words on a wall. They’re principles that shape how I work, how I facilitate, how I coach and how I create experiences for others.
🎈 Fun 🎈
Fun unlocks possibility. Fun creates space to experiment. When people are enjoying themselves, they become more willing to try something different, share an unfinished idea and see what happens when they change the rules. That’s where creativity starts.
LEGO® Serious Play® gives me a particularly powerful way to bring this to life. A simple pile of bricks can change the atmosphere in a room, lower the barrier to participation and give people permission to think differently.
Fun isn’t the destination. It’s the doorway.
🤔 Curiosity 🤔
I’m fascinated by what makes people, teams and organisations tick. Why do we do things this way? What happens if we try something different? What are we not seeing?
Curiosity helps us move from ‘this is how we do things’ to ‘what else might be possible?‘
Ask why. Ask what if. Ask what else.
🌱 Growth 🌱
I don’t believe we ever arrive at a point where we’ve finished learning.
Organisations evolve. Teams evolve. People evolve. And so should the way we work. This is why experimentation, reflection and continuous improvement sit at the heart of my approach.
Try something. Learn from it. Adapt. Try again.
🧠 Simplicity 🧠
Complexity can make people freeze. Sometimes the best way forward is to make an idea visible, give it a shape, build a metaphor or simply get it out of someone’s head and onto the table.
That’s one of the reasons LEGO® Serious Play® has become such an important part of my toolkit. It gives people a way to take something abstract or complicated and make it tangible, creating something they can look at, explore and talk about together.
A complex idea can become a model. A model can become a conversation. And a conversation can become a new possibility.
Make it visible. Make it tangible. Make it easier to explore.
🤝 Connection 🤝
We all bring different experiences, perspectives, skills and ways of thinking. Those differences can sometimes create friction, but they can also be where the greatest ideas come from.
I believe the best teams aren’t made up of people who think the same way. They’re made up of people who can bring their differences together, listen to one another and build on what each person brings.
That’s one of the things I love about LEGO® Serious Play®. A single brick can be interesting, but connect it to other bricks and you can create something much bigger. The same is true of people, ideas and perspectives.
Connection turns individual ideas into collective possibilities.
🧪 Experimentation 🧪
I believe in trying things rather than waiting until we have all the answers. Sometimes the best way to discover what works is to build something, put it into the world, see what happens and learn from the experience.
That applies to teams, workshops, products, careers and even my own approach. I’m comfortable experimenting with new ideas, adapting when something doesn’t work and changing direction when we learn something new.
LEGO® is a wonderful metaphor for this. You can build something, take it apart and use exactly the same bricks to create something completely different. There’s no expectation that the first model has to be perfect. It simply gives you something to learn from. I think the same principle applies to the way we work.
The first version doesn’t have to be right. It just has to teach us something.
So what does this mean for you?
It means you can expect me to bring curiosity, creativity and a willingness to experiment to the work we do together. I’ll create space for different perspectives, make complex things easier to explore and encourage you to look at challenges from a different angle.
I won’t always have the answer, and I don’t think I should. My role is to help you find the questions, ideas and possibilities that might otherwise remain hidden.
Whether we’re working with a team, exploring a personal challenge, designing a workshop or building something entirely new, we’ll start with what matters to you and see what we can build together.
And yes, there may be LEGO®.
