Facilitating with the LEGO® bricks and the LEGO® Serious Play® method is more than a one-time workshop. It’s a progression. As you engage more deeply, you unlock richer experiences, stronger facilitation skills, and greater impact for individuals, teams and organisations.
Each part of that progression is recognised, from first curiosity, through training, into real application. Every stage is a step on The LSP Journey. Whether you’re new to LEGO® Serious Play® or looking to deepen your practice, this map shows your options and how we can support you.
Here is how The LSP Journey is broken down into distinct, meaningful levels. Each represents a transition in mindset, skillset and contribution.
At the ‘Explorer – Yellow Brick‘ level you’re intrigued by LEGO® Serious Play®. Maybe you’ve seen it being used, attended a taster session, been involved in a workshop or conference session, or have just heard about the power of ‘hands-on, minds-on’ thinking with bricks.
As and ‘Explorer‘ you’ll begin to discover:-
• What LEGO Serious Play® really is – a hands-on, minds-on approach to thinking, communicating, and problem solving
• What it can do for teams – helping people connect, collaborate, and communicate more openly
• How it fuels innovation and creativity – by engaging imagination and encouraging new perspectives
• How it promotes equal participation – ensuring every voice is heard and every idea is valued
• Why it enhances problem solving and clarity – allowing complex ideas to be built, seen, and discussed together
• Where it can make the biggest impact – in workshops, retrospectives, team alignment, strategy, and leadership development
As an ‘Explorer‘ you embody openness, playfulness, and curiousity. You see something in the method and want to explorer it further.
To achieve the ‘Explorer – Yellow Brick’ level, you simply need a willingness to explore and start diving into LEGO® Serious Play®.

At the ‘Practitioner – Green Brick‘ level you’ve decided to take the next step on The LSP Journey and receive formal training in the foundations and fundamentals of LEGO® Serious Play®.
This stage is about getting guidance, structure and the results you know are possible following training to become a Certified Practitioner of LEGO® Serious Play®.
As a ‘Practitioner‘ you will:
• Understand the core process – the question, the building, the sharing, the reflection
• Gain confidence to run your first session(s), applying the method to real groups
• Learn how to create safe space and begin to facilitate purposeful play
You’re shifting from exploration into practice.

Next Steps – From Practice to Facilitation
You’ve built confidence in using the LEGO® Serious Play® method and begun facilitating meaningful conversations. The next stage is about refining your facilitation craft and adding depth to your LSP sessions. This is achieved by adding additional build methods and understanding more of the theory behind the method. Step into the role of Facilitator, where you move from structured practice to creative leadership.
To do this you could:-
Receive 1-2-1 coaching and mentoring – register interest
Attend a top-up course – register interest
Attend the full course to become a Certified Facilitator of LEGO® Serious Play®
The ‘Facilitator – Blue Brick‘ level introduces a deeper application of the LEGO® Serious Play® method. Whether you’ve completed the Certified Practitioner training or are joining directly with relevant experience, this stage focuses on confidently leading others through the process.
At this stage you’ll begin working with shared and systems models, enabling richer conversations and stronger outcomes.
As a ‘Facilitator‘, you will:-
• Deepen your understanding of the method to confidently use all build methods
• Design and run engaging sessions that are purposeful, insightful, and aligned with team or organisational goals
• Reflect on and refine your facilitation to continuously improve your approach and create greater impact through the bricks

Certified Facilitator of LEGO® Serious Play®
Next Steps – From Facilitation to Expertise
You’ve developed the skill to lead sessions that inspire openness, creativity, and alignment. Now it’s time to deepen your expertise, integrating LEGO® Serious Play® into broader organisational contexts, experimenting with advanced techniques, and mentoring emerging practitioners. The ‘Expert – Red Brick‘ level invites you to move from capable facilitator to recognised authority in the method.
At the ‘Expert – Red Brick‘ level you will have been trained in the LEGO® Serious Play® method and have been facilitating LEGO® Serious Play® sessions/workshops for more than two years.
You will know the method deeply. You will be innovative within the method. You will be mentoring others in the method. You will be regularly contributing to the LSP community.
You understand the nuance of when and how to deploy the bricks, not just as a session tool but as part of ongoing agile, team, leadership or coaching practice.
As an ‘Expert‘ you will:
• Lead others in LSP-inspired facilitation
• Integrate LSP with your broader coaching, agile or organisational work
• Contribute regularly to the LSP community, sharing learnings, tools, insights.
You are the advanced practitioner, influencing beyond your own sessions.

Next Steps – From Expertise to Mastery
You’ve shaped meaningful change through LEGO® Serious Play® and contributed to the growth of others. The next step is to elevate your influence, innovating with the method, shaping new applications, and leading the wider LSP community. The ‘Master – Black Brick‘ level celebrates not just what you know, but how you inspire and evolve the field for future generations.
At the ‘Master – Black Brick‘ level you are a thought-leader in the LSP world. You’ve been applying, refining, innovating for five or more years. You inspire and shape how the method is used. You serve the community.
At the Master level, your work transcends facilitation – you are helping to design and shape the future of the method.
To achieve ‘Mastery‘ you will have:-
Run a variety of sessions with different outcomes, topics, lengths and audiences for over five years
Completed a number of advanced training sessions in LSP
Written thought leadership articles advancing the craft of LSP
Worked to build the LSP community
Becoming a LEGO® Serious Play® Certified Master is recognition of a significant devotion to the LSP Method in your career.
You are the true master of the method, shaping its practice and inspiring others to elevate their own facilitation.
