The open-source guide: A starting point, not the destination
Since 2010, the LEGO® Serious Play® (LSP) method has been open-sourced. The guide is freely available, offering you the ‘building blocks’ to design and deliver your own LSP workshops. It is an invaluable resource but, even the LEGO® Group ‘strongly recommend’ that facilitators undertake training. Why? Because a ‘guide‘, however detailed, is not the same as ‘mastery’.
A story from the garage
When I bought my first car, I knew very little about engines. To help me, I invested in a Haynes Manual. For anyone of a certain age, you’ll remember these step-by-step guides, complete with diagrams, difficulty ratings, and detailed instructions. They covered everything from changing a headlight bulb to replacing a radiator, brake pads, or even an entire engine.
With that manual (and the occasional helping hand from my Dad), I managed to complete all sorts of jobs on my cars. The manual gave me confidence, clarity, and a process to follow.
But here’s the truth. Owning a Haynes Manual didn’t make me a mechanic. I could perform tasks, but I lacked the experience, professional insight, and judgment of someone trained in the trade.
